More on Diesel Tuning
Manufacturers are constantly improving their diesel ranges and often offer two models with the same capacity but different outputs. You can now avoid the expensive option of going for the higher power output version and fit a Turbotune digital tuning box.
The plug-in tuning box or module is quickly and easily installed and just a easily removed for servicing or warranty work. Installing the Turbotune DT will elevate the performance of your diesel to new heights or your money back. For example, a Ford 2 litre Mondeo 130 bhp or Jaguar X-Type diesel will outperform the factory 2.2 litre model, and even 1.4L diesels feel like at least a 1.6L.
The Turbotune DT is also excellent for vans, motorhomes and tow cars boosting low down torque means less gear changing, easier hill climbing and effortless motorway cruising.
In most cases economy is improved too, due to less gear changing resulting in the engine running at lower revs. The overall effect is that you will have a quieter more relaxing driving experience. In those cars with a 6th gear this becomes more useable, with less need to drop down a gear to accelerate.
The Turbotune tuning box can be fitted yourself, or if you don't feel confident we can arrange to fit it for you. Our engineers travel throughout the UK on a regular basis so we can usually schedule a visit one one of our regular routes. If you encounter a problem just give us a call and we will talk you through the process.
UK Design, UK Manufacture, UK Support
The Turbotune DT module has a solid heritage originally developed from Ronian Ltd's (Tuning-diesels.com) Synergy range first sold in October 2005. The Turbotune DT is manufactured in the UK by Energy Tuning Ltd. The design of the tuning box takes on board all the comments and experiences of 1000's of customers and embodies them in the highly successful Turbotune DT.
This means:
- A wide range of adjustments (9 settings) to suit all driver preferences
- Rugged, hard wired cables using OEM connectors designed for under-bonnet use
- An off switch to bypass the module
- Simple fitting with no wiring mods or battery connections
- UK customer support
How does it work?
The Turbotune use a low power RISC micro controller chip that digitises the sensor signal(s) 10,000 times per second. Once digitised the system remaps the signals to reprogram the fuel pressure according to the settings selected and outputs them back to the ECU. This permits increased fuelling and therefore torque. This increase is in relation to driver demand and engine rpm so accurate control is possible virtually anywhere in the rev and load range.
The tuning box incorporates 9 fuel modifying maps in the firmware. This means that the by using separate switches to control the low/mid rpm range (below about 2500rpm) and the mid/high rpm range (above about 2500rpm). you can separately control low end torque and high end power. Choose more low down 'pulling power' - ideal for motorhomes and vans, or more 'top end' for sporty fast road use, or both for the power mad!
The on/off switch allows you to bypass the unit and returns the performance to standard.
A remote switch is available for attaching to the dash (with Velcro so no holes needed) and one setting is programmable to a setting of your choice, whilst the other uses whatever the switches are currently set at. Popular with tow car drivers, one setting can used for every day driving and the other when towing. Or town v country, his v hers (!) or economy v performance. Its your choice.
Reliability
Common rail diesel tuning products have been on sale in the UK for 10 years now, and there is no evidence that they are causing long term unreliability. The Turbotune DT has been designed with a responsible approach, it does not attempt to extract every last bhp from you engine.
Why don't the manufacturers just tune to this level?
One of the reasons why tuning is proving safe is due to manufacturers over-engineering their engines. They have do this to allow for:
- Poor fuel quality
- Poor servicing
- Harsh conditions - e.g. climate and towing
- Harsh drivers
A manufacturer has to ensure that the engine will perform under less than ideal conditions and so is very conservatively tuned.
